AIDS | HOW TO PREVENT AIDS / HIV INFECTION?


AIDS

1.         AIDS (Acquired Immune-Deficiency Syndrome) is a disease, which is caused by a virus called Human Immune Deficiency Virus or HIV. The virus is fatal and dangerous because it destroys the immune system in the human body & remains in the body for years together without any visible symptoms. AIDS is the last stage of infection of the virus. In the US and some other countries like Uganda, Zimbabwe etc, AIDS emerged in the 1980s. In India, the first case of HIV infection was detected in 1986 in Madras. According to the estimates by Indian Health Organisation There were lacs of HIV +ve and felt – blown AIDS victims at the end of 1994.

2.         It mainly spreads through a sexual route & blood to blood contact. It may be said that HIV spreads mainly through four sources :

            (a)        Sex with an infected partner – heterosexual as well as homosexual.

            (b)        Transfusion of blood & blood products infected with HIV.

(c)        Infected mother to the unborn child, there being 30-50% chance of delivery.

AGNI I

1.    The Agni missile project was launched in 1983 by DRDO.  The short range variant Agni ballistic missile was successfully test fired on 04 July 2004 from  mobile launches at the test range off the Orissa coast.

2.    The short range Agni – I was first test fired on 25th Jan 02 and second on 9th Jan 2003 from the same launching site.  This was the 3rd successful test of the indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile with nuclear capability. It  can strike targets up to a distance of 700 to 900 km and can blast form both road and rail mobile launches.

3.    Agni – I has major differences form its other longer-range version.  It is 12 m in height and powered by single stage solid fuel rocket, which provides it a speed of 2.5 km per second.  It is expected to bridge the gap of Prithiv and Agni – II.

          India is an ancient land where innumerable civilization thrived.  It is a country, which has withstood the ravages of time and upheld its identity as an independent, self- reliant nation.

The Present Scenario


            Over the past 58 years, India has been progressing in many fields.  Science and Technology has advanced immensely and Indians rule the roost in IT. 

            There are 3.22 millions of Indians in USA.  Yet, 38% of doctor and 12% of scientist in USA are Indians.  36% of NASA scientist, 34% of micro soft employees and 28% of IBM employees are Indians.  India has also attained considerable progress in the field of education and ranks second in the world with more than 50,00,000 students in higher education.  Our country is having virtually all types of industries from bicycle to aircraft.  Our country is among 10 hottest destinations for foreign investors.

Challenges Before Us


1.         Population.    To eradicate poverty and slow development, population needs to be checked.

2.         Terrorism    Measures like POTA must be used judiciously and forcefully to tackle terrorism.

3.         Misguided and Frustrated Youth.    Youth has gone off-track because of acute problem like unemployment, lack of family guidance & due to break of joint family system.

4.         Communalism.     It must be checked otherwise it will give rise to terrorism.

5.         Corruption.    We are today one of the most corrupt nations in the world.  To reduce corruption, govt servant’s salaries must declare their assets regularly, accountability must be reduced, and transparency must be brought in. 

Conclusion


            Indians belong to a magnificent culture, whose scriptures and history trace the developments  of the entire humanity. Each Indian should awaken and discover the latent strength in him for the development of the nation.  Dr APJ Abdul Kalam also believes that India will become developed nation by 2020.
