Tamil Nadu State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (TNSCDRC)

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for appointment on whole time basis in Tamil Nadu State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (TNSCDRC), established under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 for two posts of Members having judicial background. The term "judicial background" would mean persons having knowledge and experience for at least a period of ten years as presiding officer at the district level court or any tribunal at equivalent level

In case of serving officials, applications should be sent through proper channel along with administrative clearance of the competent authority. In all such administrative clearances, itshall be clearly stated that the officer is clear from any vigilance cases. In case, any penalty has been imposed in the past against the officers under relevant Service Rules, details of the same shall be furnished

All applicants will have to submit their applications in the prescribed format, annexed here with. The applicants shall also submit with the application, copies of best 5 judgements or other judicial orders passed by them.

In terms of Section 16 of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, the eligibility criteria and the criteria for disqualification governing the Members of SCDRC in brief are as under.

 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The candidate .- 
(i) Shall not be less than 35 years of age on 01 .07.2015. 
(ii) Shall possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized university and 
(iii) Shall be a person of ability, integrity and standing have adequate knowledge and experience of at least 10 years in dealing with problems relating to economics, law, commerce, accountancy, industry, public affairs or administration; and "'shall have knowledge and experience for at least a period of ten years as a presiding officer at the district level court or any tribunal at equivalent level.  

DISQUALIFICATIONS : 
A person shall be disqualified for appointment if he:- 
(a) has been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for an offence which, in the opinion of the State Government, involves moral turpitude; 
or
 (b) is an undischarged insolvent; 
or 
(c) is of unsound mind and stands so declared by a competent court;
 or 
(d) has been removed or dismissed from the service of the Government or a body corporate owned or controlled by the Government; 
or
(e) has, in opinion of the State Government, such financial or other interest as is likely to affect prejudicially the discharge by him of his functions as a Member; 
or ,-. , 
(f) has such other disqualifications as may be prescribed by the State Government


 PERIOD OF TENURE 
The Members of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission shall hold office for a term of five years or upto the age of 67 years whichever is earlier and shall be eligible for re-appointment for another term of five years or upto the age of 67 years whichever is earlier as per the provisions of sub-section (3) of section 16 of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986

 REMUNERATION
ln terms of Rule 7(1), of the Consumer Protection Rules, 1988, as amended, the Members having a judicial background are appointed on whole time basis, they are entitled to receive the remuneration of Last Pay Drawn less Pension. ' 

In the event of selection of serving officials, they would have to resign/take voluntary retirement from the post being held at that time, before taking up an appointment as Member, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. The appointment of selected candidates shall be subject to his/her production of a certificate of physical fitness, duly signed by a Civil Surgeon or District Medical Officer in the prescribed proforma

Other terms and conditions of assignment shall be regulated in accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and the Rules framed thereunder, as amended from time to time. 

Persons interested in applying for the post of Member (with judicial background), State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission may apply only in the format annexed to this Circular, and attach all prescribed documents.Application may be sent to the Registrar, State Gonsumer Disputes Redressal Gommission, Frazer Bridge Road, 1"t Floor, V"O.C. Nagar, Park Town, Chennai-600 003, so as to reach the office on or before 18.01.2016

Applications which are incomplete or lacking in any details/documents as asked for and those received after the due date will be rejected summarily.
