AGNI I

AGNI I

1.    The Agni missile project was launched in 1983 by DRDO.  The short range variant Agni ballistic missile was successfully test fired on 04 July 2004 from  mobile launches at the test range off the Orissa coast.

2.    The short range Agni – I was first test fired on 25th Jan 02 and second on 9th Jan 2003 from the same launching site.  This was the 3rd successful test of the indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile with nuclear capability. It  can strike targets up to a distance of 700 to 900 km and can blast form both road and rail mobile launches.

3.    Agni – I has major differences form its other longer-range version.  It is 12 m in height and powered by single stage solid fuel rocket, which provides it a speed of 2.5 km per second.  It is expected to bridge the gap of Prithiv and Agni – II.

  1. The Congress President Sonia Gandhi congratulated and added that we pursue peace but we will not compromise with our country’s security.

21st CENTURY INDIA

21st CENTURY INDIA

India is an ancient land where innumerable civilization thrived.  It is a country, which has withstood the ravages of time and upheld its identity as an independent, self- reliant nation.

The Present Scenario

Over the past 58 years, India has been progressing in many fields.  Science and Technology has advanced immensely and Indians rule the roost in IT.

There are 3.22 millions of Indians in USA.  Yet, 38% of doctor and 12% of scientist in USA are Indians.  36% of NASA scientist, 34% of micro soft employees and 28% of IBM employees are Indians.  India has also attained considerable progress in the field of education and ranks second in the world with more than 50,00,000 students in higher education.  Our country is having virtually all types of industries from bicycle to aircraft.  Our country is among 10 hottest destinations for foreign investors.

Challenges Before Us

1.         Population.    To eradicate poverty and slow development, population needs to be checked.

2.         Terrorism    Measures like POTA must be used judiciously and forcefully to tackle terrorism.

3.         Misguided and Frustrated Youth.    Youth has gone off-track because of acute problem like unemployment, lack of family guidance & due to break of joint family system.

4.         Communalism.     It must be checked otherwise it will give rise to terrorism.

5.         Corruption.    We are today one of the most corrupt nations in the world.  To reduce corruption, govt servant’s salaries must declare their assets regularly, accountability must be reduced, and transparency must be brought in.

Conclusion

Indians belong to a magnificent culture, whose scriptures and history trace the developments  of the entire humanity. Each Indian should awaken and discover the latent strength in him for the development of the nation.  Dr APJ Abdul Kalam also believes that India will become developed nation by 2020.

New START (for Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty)

New START (for Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) is a nuclear arms reduction treaty between the United States of America and the Russian Federation with the formal name of Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms. It was signed on 8 April 2010 in Prague, and, after ratification, entered into force on 5 February 2011. It is expected to last at least until 2021. New START replaced the Treaty of Moscow (SORT), which was due to expire in December 2012.

Tissue Culture

Tissue culture is a technique applied to grow the tissues of plants and animals by in vitro culture. ‘In vitro’ culture means culturing the tissues outside the body of living organisms i.e. in the laboratory.
Plant tissue culture is developed based on a principle calledtotipotencyTotipotency is the inherent capacity of a living plant cell to develop into a complete plant of the same variety. It is a peculiar character of plants. According to this technique, if a living plant cell is isolated from a plant and introduced in the standard culture medium, it grows into a mass of undifferentiated cells called ‘callus’. When the callus is introduced into another culture medium with plant growth hormones such as auxinsand cytotkininsit grows into a complete plant with root and shoot systems. This plant is genetically same to the plant from which the cell is taken.
